How to make a GFX without Blender

A classic GFX takes three programs: Roblox Studio to get the avatar out, Blender to pose, light and render it, and Photoshop to add effects and text. Each step is a skill of its own. Here is what each step does, and how to do it in one browser tab.

1. Get the avatar

In Blender you export the avatar from Studio and rig it. In GFX Workshop you type a username: the real 3D avatar loads, already rigged, with its hair, accessories and clothes.

2. Pose it

A pose tells the story: a sword raised, arms crossed, a punch. Pick one of the ready-made poses, or bend the joints yourself in the Advanced editor. Characters can hold swords, guns and props, and aim at things.

3. Light it

Light is what makes a GFX look expensive: a strong key light, a colored rim light behind the character, and a background that matches. Lighting looks set all three at once; you can still move every light.

4. Render it

The live view is already a finished picture. Premium render sends the scene to Blender on our servers for real light bounces and soft shadows, with free renders every day.

5. Edit it

Effects go on top as layers: auras, lightning, rim light, depth (text behind the character), color grades and titles. Each layer can be moved, recolored or turned off after the render.
